Community Events 6/23/2022 We are going to continue with a 7:30 am walk due to the huge success of this week’s event. Let's meet at the Park Lake gazebo in Rockaway on Thursday, June 23. This is a nice level paved walking path with multiple benches around the perimeter allowing for rest, as needed. Make one loop or several depending on your energy and fitness level. Most of us have been doing two laps around the lake which is about 1.5 miles but everyone is encouraged to do what is comfortable for you. Make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle. Thursday, June 23 at 7:30am. Come on you early risers!! Directions Take 80 East to Exit 35 toward Dover. Make the first left onto Mineral Springs Drive and then the first right onto Fleetwood Drive. Take Fleetwood about one mile to its end and make a right onto Mount Hope Road. Make first right (about half a mile) onto Chestnut Terrace and park in either lot. We’ll meet at the Gazebo. During our first three walks, the group decided on doing two laps around the lake which is about 1.5 miles. Meet other members of our community or renew friendships after the long winter. Make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle. We start our walk promptly from in front of the gazebo at 5 pm. Our fourth stroll will be on Friday, June 10 at 10am. I'd also like to get comments from all interested walkers on what days/times work best for you. Keep in mind we will be moving into higher summer temperatures. Directions Questions: Call Jim Bischoff 973-442-4637 11/12/2021 As we are now moving into shorter days and colder weather, I am closing out the walking group for the season after Tuesday, November 2, 10am walk. In its place, I am going to do “custom” walks for whoever is interested. If a nice day is coming up during a particular week, feel free to reach out to me and suggest a day, time, and location. If I am free, I’ll join you. For those of you who have expressed interest directly to me and provided contact information, I also will send out suggestions and times for walks. If one appeals to you, just let me know and I will carry through with the walk. If I do not hear from anyone, then I’ll just do my own thing instead of showing up for the suggested walk. So these suggested walks will only take place IF someone expresses an interest. I’m hoping that we can still do some hiking/walking in local parks or around the neighborhood if the weather cooperates. Please know that I’m usually up for any excuse to get outside, as long as it’s not raining. I’ll set up a more formal walking group again in the Spring. Until then, please feel free to reach out individually and/or send me your contact information so you’ll get my suggested walks during the fall/winter season. Happy Holidays to all!! 10/10/2021 The leaves are changing, the air is crisp and clear, and it’s a great time to get outside for some exercise. The initial plan is to have two walks per week with the Tuesday walk leaving the cabana at 10AM and the Thursday walk leaving at 5:30PM. The walk would take us to the Hugh Force Canal Park off West Central Avenue and the round trip is about 3 miles and takes about 1 hour. Virtually all of the route is on sidewalks and the only strenuous part is getting in and out of our neighborhood. Starting date would be Tuesday, October 12. To be part of the group, please fill out the waiver and also feel free to contact me with questions. Depending on the composition of the group, we can modify the days, the times, and the route.
